Short biography

Michael Gutmann is machine learning faculty at the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh. He holds MSc degrees from ETH Zurich and Ecole Centrale Paris and a PhD degree in computational neuroscience from the University of Tokyo. Prior to joining Edinburgh, he worked at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and the Department of Computer Science at the University of Helsinki and Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland. He has been part of organising committees for NeurIPS, ICML, and AISTATS, and currently serves as Action Editor for Transactions on Machine Learning Research. His research is in machine learning for science, with a focus on parameter estimation, Bayesian inference and design.
